Julie, the oldest sister, is the foreign correspondent, the sister who has lived and worked in Moscow, Russia and Bangkok, Thailand. Julie and her husband are now living in the foreign land of Dallas, Texas, but who knows how long they will stay there. Before becoming a world traveller, Julie worked at and taught in a number of leading U.S. universities and business schools including UCLA, Stanford and Tulane. She has a degree in Government from Smith College and an MBA from Penn State. She and her husband have two twenty-something sons. Before creating and launching Satellite Sisters, Liz, the second oldest sister, was the Vice President of Global Marketing at NIKE, where she worked for a decade. She has twice been named Woman of the Year in the sports business. She quit her job at NIKE on her 40th birthday to go get a life. Instead, she has spent the years since then running Satellite Sisters Omnimedia (not the company’s real name – she just likes to dream.) Sheila, the middle sister, has been an educator her entire career. She was a teacher and principal at several public elementary schools in New York City, one of which, Bridges, she co-founded under the city’s innovative small schools initiative. Most recently, she taught first grade in West Los Angeles. She holds a B.A. from Hunter College and two Masters Degrees in Education, which she charged on a now-defunct VISA card. Sheila is the official Satellite Sisters Entertainment Reporter, hosting her own “show within the show” called Entertaining Sheila. Monica, the second youngest sister, has spent most of her career as an R.N. and Clinical Medical Researcher specializing in cardiac care. She has spent more than two decades in Intensive Care Units, Coronary Care Units, Operating Rooms and, most recently, FDA conference rooms, working on studies for approval of new medical devices. Monica leads many of the health and wellness discussions on Satellite Sisters and also has her own segment entitled “Science of the Obvious” in which she examines studies that come to such earth-shattering conclusions as “Teens’ Brains May Not Be Ready To Make Good Decisions” and “Most Adult Women Do Not Get Enough Sleep.” She has a B.S. from Georgetown, is single and lives in Portland, Oregon, not far from the sisters’ parents. Lian, the youngest sister, is a writer whose monthly column in Working Mother Magazine is called The Chaos Chronicles. Her work has been published in such magazines as in O, The Oprah Magazine and Good Housekeeping and she was the head sister and senior editor on Satellite Sister’s Uncommon Senses, the sisters’ memoir of growing up together which is in bookstores now. She has also been a sports film producer, an urban archeologist and a “cocktail tomato” at the Mangy Moose in Jackson, Wyoming. Lian is married with two school age sons. She lives in Pasadena, California. Her degree from Pomona College is in Classics, which comes in handy in Greek restaurants. More ...
